This scarce set of artistic pottery was created by Jaska of California, which was founded in Los Angeles, California in 1946 and operated until the mid-1950s. The pattern is called "Cascade" and was offered in a variety of bright colors, including green, pink, and this sunny yellow.
Although the history of California pottery dates back to the 1800s, to many collectors the term evokes the colorful and creative ceramics produced by some of the hundreds of large and small California potteries from just before WWII through the1960s. When WWII cut off imports from Europe and Asia, it spurred a tremendous growth in American potteries. However, after the war, companies in Japan and other Asian countries began mass producing inexpensive ceramic and pottery, often "inspired" by American designs. Unable to compete, many of these California potteries were forced to close.
